Martha Hare

Ner Tamid (personal mission statement):

Awakening to the source of love within us

Martha Hare, DMin (Jewish Spirituality), PhD (anthropology) lives in Maryland near Washington DC. She has been a long-time student of Mussar, mainly with the Center for Contemporary Mussar (CCM) and completed her training as a Madricha (Leader) at CCM in 2022. Martha loves leading va’ads (classes) for students with varied Jewish backgrounds and styles of learning. She has been a member of the Adat Shalom Reconstructionist congregation in Bethesda MD for 30 years, taking on varied roles in the community. She is also involved with Tifereth Israel, a Conservative congregation in Washington DC where she has led Tot Shabbat using yoga movement, story time, and Mussar themes. As a Spiritual Director, and a Registered Yoga Teacher, Martha’s focus is on healing our relationship with divinity through embodiment, perhaps using this as a springboard for activism. As the years go by, Martha’s gratitude only increases as she witnesses the profound way in which Mussar’s focus on others deepens her spiritual work and ability to be effective in our challenging world.
